Arrived at the landing at Aucilla River right at 0730. Only 1 crabber had launched ahead of us. Only l truck and my van when we retrieved at 1600hrs. Hardly no one is fishing....and it's not too shabby here in late September. Low tide at/1030....so we had plenty of water to launch. Went on out to the river entrence...where the water was flooding out. We drifted mighty fast....too fast in fact...but caught 1 keeper trout and 1 short by 1 in. redfish.
That was to be our catch for the day....until after low tide. About noon the bite was on and we caught some of entire crop of fish on the flats it seems...and lots of short trout--14 5/8 in---and some 10 inch stuff. We caught 1. sail cats 2. hardheads 3. pin fish 4. blues 5. lizard fish 6. black bass 7.white trout 8. Black drum (3 lbs) 9. And some very much keeper trout up to 20 in.10. big ladyfish (which were not a lady) Wound up the day with 9 nice trout and 1 3 lb bluefish.(no reds) (Dixie Rebel likes bluefish...and he had to work) so we took him one.
Had 2 boats of unknown people stick with us like a shadow about 1300. They arrived on the scene and stopped close to our boat ( no other boats were in site) We moved about 1/2 mile out toward deeper water....they cranked up and joined us. We moved about 1 mile out to sea....they moved just as soon as we did. And got close to our boat too. It was obvious to me they didn't know where to fish....and we had probably50 square miles of open ocean to fish in.....and they stayed right with us. I finally got tired of that unhappy affair and cranked up and came back toward Econfina River (about 2-3 miles worth) As soon as we left the area...they cranked up and headed who knows where.
Coming back into that river on high tide is a pleasure for not having to worry about the rocks

Sounds like a fine trip, Fisherman. Glad you got to go.

Don't be telling everybody how good the fishing is in the Fall. You'll have 6 boats following you around all day.
