Econfina 9-30-06 No Luck

Got worked over pretty good by the fishing gods today.

Caused cluster #1 at the ramp at about 6:45 (dark) and had to pull back around after getting squeezed out of a backing lane.

Headed SE to find choppy, murky water again (see last week). Picked up a short flounder and short seabass. Chilly wind was howling out of the N.

Headed up to the shoreline to get out of the wind and try for reds on the high tide. Never found any reds but found plenty of 6lb bluefish near the creek mouths. One straigntened a jighead.

Tried another trout drift to the SSW as the wind had died down. No luck.

Picked up and Ran WAY N past tripod and north of river mouth. Found the clear water and good looking bottom. Tried to work in a couple drifts with only some dink trout to show for it. Got bit by a lizzard fish I was taking off the hook. :hammer:

Missed a short strike, jig flies out of the water at my head and I stick up my hand to block it - burried a hook and barb in the palm of my hand. :hammer: :hammer:

Football and air conditioning was calling me and my injuries so I ran in. Saw Webly at the ramp where I was causing cluster #2 at low tide trying to hit my trailer in a crosswind. Hand was hurting so I didn't stick around and shoot the bull just headed home ASAP for sleepy time on the couch.

Short story long = good looking water is NW of the tripod.

Thanks for report!

Sounds like a very interesting day for sure!

As my grandaughter Mimi says...."sometimes fishing hurts."

Man, you had a tough day. :( Sorry about your hand, wife almost had the same thing happen Thursday with a catch Jr. plug. Big trout hit and missed and lure flew back at her but missed her. We found good looking water west of tripod also but no trout. We got ours almost to Aucilla.

You're a mean one TC

A howling north wind is usually a bad sign for me too, especially at Econfina.

You'll get 'em next time.
