Wife and I left the ramp at around 11:30 am as the tide was rising. I will have to admit I did something today I never done before. Just glad no one had a camera. I forgot to unhook the safety chain at the winch, and had the old Mercury hummin, but it would not get off the trailer. About that time brain says" Hey, you forgot the safety chain dummy". Anyway, after telling the wife to pull back up a little, I proceded to bust my arse and fall in the water gettin out of the boat. Now, with wet shoes, and chain unhooked, we proceeded out the river. I think the thing that hurt the most was having to tell the wife I made a mistake....

Ok, looked nice out on the water, so we decided to go about 15 miles out to see if our grouper hole was being occupied. We caught a few shorts and got 1 keeper 24 inches. Darn thing was they would not bite anything except trolling. Around 2:30 we headed back in to the flats and settled in close in around Hickory Mound. Caught 2 nice keepers along with some trash fish. Around 5 headed over to mouth of the river and boated another keeper trout. Also caught several shorts, some as small as 8" and a few rock bass shorts.

All in all, a nice day on the water, total 1 keeper Gag at 24" and 3 keeper trout 15.5" to 17".

Saw the coast guard do the same thing at Keaton last year. By the way I was at Econfina Sat and Sunday.
