Pompano/Jack

How to tell the difference? I may have thrown back a 5lb pompano yesterday.

Jacks have long yellowish pectoral fins also their mouths are similar to a trouts for feeding on bait fish whereas pompano and permit mouths are designed more like a drums mouth, kinda underneath for bottom feeding.

In the water of the Gulf of Mexico!! :(

I actually caught him about 30 yds from the Aucilla river mouth tripod.

We guess it was 5-6lbs.
