I know I am going round and round with the boat thing.
But this one by CS looks like it may fit the bill for me.....
Anybody seen one yet?

Just a little longer than my J-16 but with a new front end that is suppose to be less wet. I say less because no Skiff is dry.
It will be a great two person fishing rig- and an adequate 3 person rig.
I always wish mine was bigger- But it does float shallow!
I have sent you to :

It is a great forum all about Carolina Skiffs.

bman I have read that forum. I was thinking the 17 could fish three, and would be somewhat better than a 16.
$ is a factor though. I am also thinking on getting a j16 with a short transom and just switch motors with my aluminum john when goin salt.
The j16 would be more space and therefore more comfortable and stable than my 15' john.

Looking up the specs a jv17 weighs about twice what a j16 weighs.
bman have you ever had 3 at the flats in your j16?

I've had 3 in my J16 a good bit. Depending on the size of your motor will decide the speed of course. If you want to go fast plan on getting wet! With 3 people and all the gear that comes along with it makes it a little tight quarters if you don't have plenty of rod holders. It does make a perfect East river boat in the cooler months with 3 people.

Thanks....it would be a rare trip if I had 3. I have a 30hp Nissan I would probably use.

Three people in the boat is tough.
Speed:
I have a 30hp 4 stroke and it struggles with 3 in the boat.
Every time I go out with 3 people I wish I had a 40......
Room- If I am taking 3 people out to just ride or 3 guys who dont take a lot of stuff we are ok but it is TIGHT. We can do it but we just take what we need.
If I go with all the tackle I want to take, the 3rd battery for the bait aerators, the seat for the front deck, cast net and a full 6 gallons of gas- forgetaboutit. There is almost not room to turn around.
I have also looked at the "Carolina Skiff 16 Standard" it is a little wider and will take a larger motor.
I think when I replace what I have it will be no less than the 19 with a 75.
That will probably be too small.
I ALWAYS WANT A BIGGER BOAT!
