Now my Eagle is suddenly "just under warranty"

Today I get an E-mail from eagle saying my unit serial # is "just in warranty" althought yesterday it was not..

Funny how squeaky wheels get grease ain't it?[/

I have a unit I bought last september that has a simple problem. The rubber keypad is bad. The company refuses to send out a part saying it "is not field repairable"

That is funny, it only took me 2 minutes to remove the cover and take out 5 screws holding the rubber pad on. Now they want me to send the unit to them to PAY them to fix something I can easily replace myself. I am not wanting the pad under warranty, I offered to pay for it.

I will be buying my next unit from a company that will sell me parts to my unit.

Just another company trying to rape the customer. What they have done is lost one, and all I can tell this about also.

I put together a swing set about six months ago and it was missing a bar. :x I dreaded calling the manufacture and telling them it was missing. To my surprise the lady on the phone was kind and apologized. She asked for the part number and said she would put one in the mail that day. Not only did she send the right part but she sent some extra nuts and bolts with it. :wink: Now that is one cool chick. :thumbup: Such little effort can go a long way.

Dubble, you might have gotten that response from Lowrance/Eagle because the case on all marine electronics is nitrogen filled, to keep out moisture, and prevent the unit from fogging up.

It was nitrogen filled.... :o

Good info! :thumbup: If that is the case they could have told Dubble or even put that on the unit somewhere as a "caution" to let the consumer know not to break the seal.

John you are correct. I am a FLEA (Former Lowrance Electronics Employee association) So I should know.

Not only is the case nitrogen filled, they do not have a breakdown of cost on the parts for retail. I am sure if Dubble wants to call Darell Lowrance himself he would break the rules and send him a keypad.
But I would not want to go fishing with this unit if I fixed it myself.

I've had an Eagle GPS for over 10 years. The company has been great to me...and the unit is flawless. :D

The unit works fine, that is the exact reason I do not want to send it in. It is a very simple part to replace. As for nitrogen filled, I think you guys have been reading too many deer scope ads. I worked with hydraulic seals for 18 years, and I can assure you that the case is "water resistant" but NOT airtite. Now the LCD screen itself may be sealed, but I am not opening it.

The only analogy I can come up with is what if your car or truck dealer said "Ah, you got a broken winshield, you gonna have to return it to the factory for a replacement, cuz we do not sell parts, and we may just send you another refurbished car instead of your original.

Think about it. That is all I am saying. If you feel better letting a "factory authorized center" work on you stuff, fine send it in. I have actually been in some of these "refurbish" factories, and I would rather fix my own stuff. Now Lowrance/Eagle may be different, but I was never offered any other option but "No, we will not sell you the part, you can pay us to fix it.
