St. Marks 10-25-06

Post by Bakertize »

started out a little later than usual 10:00 am from the St. Marks fort.
made our way to the grass flats to catch some pins . tide was realy low ! maybe 2' in front of light house. water temp there 70 wind was out of the north east at 15 + started drifting over grass with cut squid on the bream buster. finally started getting some pins as the wind blew us to the edge of the channel. picked up a couple of dozen and headed out to 50' the trip took a wile with seas at 3' , sloppy and wind blowing up bow spray . Burrr !!
we make it out to my spot 12:00 noon tide turning and starting in. water temp 74.5 wind started to lay down a little with the seas now 2' started bottom fishing with hole squid and cigars minnows not much action picked up a couple of rock bass and lost a lot of bait to some little bandits. moved over to another hole. same deal again :smt009 getting bored so moved to another hole 2.5 miles away. 4:30 pm drift over the spot BAM !! keeper red 20.5"

then a few short gags on the same drift .
start using the live pins and make another drift and I land some keeper gags  also had some strong bites and was broke off :smt013
my fish'n buddy was getting pissed he hasn't landed a fish yet :smt012
so I set the boat up for another drift and tell him to get ready with a live pin. BAMM!!! 28" GAG

next bite buddy hooks a 7'-8' hammer head shark it spits the hook as he gets near the boat.
we decide to anchor on the spot wile it was hot land some mores short gags keeper gags and a red.
started back in about 6pm running wide open over pretty much glassy seas. turned out to be a great trip that made up for some of this summer.
