The outside temperature was 47 this morning and the water was low and would only be a foot from 0 at 3:00 this afternoon, so I took my time getting ready.

Decided to try some new territory, launched at a new ramp at 0900 and made my way to my first spot, put the trolling motor down, moved the cooler to the bow and climbed up on my perch. With in seconds I see a red, run a spoon by his nose and it didn't see it, once again across it's nose, nothing .....What's that? Redfish tails and backs ..cast, cast, cast and nothing...this pattern continued for over an hour...probably saw 20 reds and none of the #$%@@#%%%% would eat. Tried everything spoons, jigs, top water, soft jerk baits nothing.

I'm on my perch and I think to myself, I have been skewled by several unnamed forum members with Arkansas Shiner in clear water, let's try it....I rig up and look around, is that a fish, cast to it, wham fish on

This one made a trip home with me, 26.5"


Swithched to a golden pepper jerk bait and fooled this 20" red



Saw a few nice trout while redfishing, had a few boats join me on my bank, so I just kept working down the bank with the wind, saw several small schools of reds, moved around a few times...investigated a small creek, caught a small trout in there, moved again..ended up catching another keeper trout off a point, thought they would be schooled up, but only got a few trout bites all day.

Not a bad day exploring new water, saw some fish, caught some fish, watched two flights of white pelicans, nothing broke, can't wait til next time.

Hey, I heard many times growing up that if you can see fish, they usually won't bite. I know that's not always the case, today might have been cold water or something else. WTG staying with them, nice reds.

Sounds like you had yourself a fine scouting trip. Feed a fly to those tough fish Chalk.

I though about it....After a few hours on said bank, I noticed alot of small boats heading to the same area, so I think they (the redfish) see alot of action....I can go two or three trips and never see a boat on my normal spots.

No, you don't need anymore stuff in your boat ..But if want to, you will need to turn the cooler on end (long ways) to get the elevation I do....

I was thinking one of these.

You know TC, with an eyelet and a couple of turnbuckles...you just might be onto something.

First time I ever saw one used was by a bass fisherman, sight fishing beding fish.
