Weekend Recap,
Saturday we launched at Spring Creek knowing the tide would be extremely low. I have few spots I like to hit due to the time of year, These didn't produce what we were looking for. About 10am we then ran to Cobb Rocks and fished around the rock piles, we didn't even get a bump. Then we moved into Redfish Point where we finally caught a few fish the size we were looking for. We didn't catch many fish three to be exact but they were good solid fish. The tide was dropping then so we got to fish it for about an hour before we had to leave. But we knew where we were going to be come Sunday.
Sunday, We decide to launch at the Fort in St. Marks so we can hit some spots in the river while we wait on the tide to rise. It was a good choice. the first place we stop at was loaded. Both trout and redfish. By 8am we had four trout 17 to 17.5 ". It was almost ever cast. I caught a 32" redfish. All together I bet we caught 20 keeper redfish and a lot of keeper trout, Just none over 17.5".
We then run to Redfish Point to catch bigger trout since the tide has started rising at a good rate. When we get to Redfish Point the rocks are still showing so I put the trolling motor down and we start fishing through the rocks and pick up two 18.5" trout they were like footballs. It was near 2pm and we had picked up two more good fish by then but still didn't have one over 20" yet. We were on our last pass by a patch of grass and I threw about a foot into that grass and caught a 23.5" to go with our two 19"ers and two 18.5"ers. After catching the 23.5" we never made another cast. We just headed for the fort.
JT51 and Butch caught big trout for the tournament. It must have been 24".
All year we have used only two baits 95% of the time.
I use my 7" "Bassassin" soft plastic white jerk bait, And Michael has been using his Clown color "Bite-A-Bait". The other 5% of the time is a Grub with 1/4 oz. head.
Its been a fun year of fishing
