You get 2 downloads when you purchase BlueChart. From past experience I recommend you save them both for this unit and the next one you purchase.

Buy the Card, works in any machine that accepts them. Downside is you don't have the maps on the computer but you can get screen shots from your machine and save them as .jpg or bitmap.

You can load BlueChart on as many machines as you like, and unlock the mapping for the area you chose at purchase. When you transfer that map data to your GPS, the Bluechart queries your GPS for model and serial number. You are restricted to transferring map data to that one GPS. If you purchase a new GPS, you can contact Garmin, and they will give you a new access code, for your chosen area, that allows you to use the new GPS. When you do this, you can no longer transfer map data to the old GPS.

You can transfer waypoints, tracks and routes from as many units as you like. You just can't transfer the map data.

BlueChart is one of many applications that runs under the Mapsource engine. Bluechart is one of the few that has restrictions. If you purchase multiple Mapsource applications, they are all loaded under, and run inside Mapsource. I am also running U.S. Lakes and Recreational Hotspots, and at one time was running U.S Highways.
