Any tips/tricks would be appreciated. Ive never been before but want to give it a shot. Sounds fun.

I don't know much, if anything about flounder giggin. 'Bought the gear and read up on it a couple of years ago, but never went. From what I hear, shallows, as with around Bald Point, Alligator Bay, and near the Marine Lab would be where I would start looking. I'm sure there are lots of place with promising bottom in other areas, from St Marks to St Joe Bay and beyond.. Seems the late summer and early fall on a full moon would be the time for it, but then I can't say for sure. Could be anytime after the inshore water warms up. 'Cain't tell you anything about technique or use of the gear either, since I got no experience with it..
My suggestion, to educate yourself,would do a search of the archives of this and other fishing forum sites for 'flounder' and/or 'gigging'. Your favorite internet search site might be a source of info on the subject, if you take the time to wade thru the commercial sites.

All you need is a boat to get you there, a good gig and a lantern. Find a good sandbar that you can either float over while hanging over the bow with the light and gig or that you can anchor the boat and wade. Look for humps in the sand in the shape of a fish. When you do, gig it. Makes you feel like a caveman again

Mudducker you should feel rite at home then the pic of you looking like a lost caveman

If you are coming to Florida to do it,the mouth of the Aucilla River is great for floundering.
If you are not familiar with Aucilla River it can be difficult to run at night.

Mount ya some headlights to the front of the boat that can aim down and bring extra batteries.
