Some old-timer was telling me once that there are fish in there. Wear some snake boots.

Thinking of trying it out for kicks. Maybe strap a yak to my boat and go over one day.

Serious gator territory. Hungry gators. That said, I've ben wanting to go there too & I'd expect it to be excellent.

I remember someone telling me the freshwater ponds were inundated with saltwater during the hurricane barrage we experienced.
Wonder if that would kill the freshwater fish...

they said the ponds are closed till April/May for the Eagle nesting season, don't know about the salt/fresh issue. I may go down on MLK day to check it out.....taken ma snake chaps and ma wadders If I don't post up by tuesday night call up the cadaver(sp) dogs

Yep, Sandbar deer and their huge My old baseball couch got drawn for a hunt got to take one. While on the hunt he said he seen several rattle snakes---kill them all let Satin sort them out.

Sometimes landlocked ponds like that can get landlocked reds and flounder in 'em. Big 'uns, too, because nobody else knows they're there and fishes for 'em, either.

On the other hand, you may find only jackfish. In which case, you'll have to bring them to my house for proper disposal.

Buddy of mine just got his Sanbar deer back from the taxidermist. That think looks like a cross between a moose, carribou and reindeer. Scary.

Been there surf fishing, and you can always find all kinds of indian pottery along the beach. Remember this is also a red wolf island propagation site, wolfs with pups ar probably not real nice. I read that the next hunt is not until Jan 25-27, so I would not go that weekend. Lake fishing opens April 1st but only in certain lakes. Lots of info on their website, the more I read the more interested I am to explore more of the island.

I have never been on the island. My Dad and Grandfather used to spend a lot of time there in the 40s and 50s. My Dad said they would catch a lot of the Hand painted Bream and bass in those ponds and sometimes some salt water fish. They also use to hunt there.

On one hunting trip when my Grandfather, his Brother and a friend all went there to hunt there was an accident. My Grandfather's Brother got shot and was killed. They went back to Indian Pass put the body in the trunk and went to the Sheriffs house to report what happened. My Grandfather never went hunting again. Don't know who shot the Brother, that was something my Grandfather took to his grave.
