Braid questions

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the first Spider wire that came out years ago, but I have a few questions about Power Pro and other current braids out there. First, how does the smaller stuff do on soinners for inshore. Second, what is the best way to connect braid to a leader as I assume you would need something less visible both for inshore stuff as well as bottom fishing and trolling set ups.

Thanks ahead of time.

Power Pro

I have used Prower Pro almost exclusively all of last fishing season on the flats for trout and redfish on spinning reels. I have had very little trouble with it...and it's size is so much better than monofilliament...for the weight class you want to use. Toothy critters can still cut it into just like mono...but when you do hook a big trout...if he's hooked good....you can just pull them over the side without a net...which is a big plus if you are using mirrorlure type plugs.
When I use a leader I simply tie it to the prower pro line using a slip knot in both pieces. Works fine. :)

Power Pro

I use Power Pro on one of my rods for fishing in the pads or deep weeds. I normally use a 3' - 5' fluorocarbon or mono leader connected with a Uni to Uni knot. The two things that you should do are use a similar line diameter Power Pro to the monofilament you normally use - don't go by lb test. 50lb Power Pro roughly corresponds to 12lb test mono in size (not breaking strength). Also, use some mono backing. This will save some money and prevent the Power Pro from slipping on the spool.

Bring Fiskars kids scissors to cut it

If you get hung up, don't use your bare hand to pull it free or you could get a nasty cut - wrap the line around a short section of 2" dowel or a paddle handle or your partner's wrist, then tug.

When it fades (and it will - the fibers don't really absorb the dye) use a sharpie to recolor the faded end. If you're into the whole camo thing, mottle the end of the line with alternating green\gray\black\brown sharpies.

Back off the drag compared to what you normally set it at.

Before you cast make sure the line isn't wrapped around the tip - braids love to tip wrap.
