Noise, vibration from trolling motor

Post by Atticus »

Is there a home remedy for this or am I headed for a service appointment. Motor is basically new 82lb MK 24volt. Now makes a whining noise at certain speeds (around 40%). Also has a little shudder. Not going to sneak up on anything with the trolling motor sounding like it needs a new serpentine belt. :(

I was trying to net a fish and the motor got into some oysters last weekend. I think the noise started after this incident. :smt010 :smt010

Check the prop. If you damaged one or both blades, it'll throw it out of balance. If that isn't it, take the prop off, turn it on, and see if you can tell if the prop shaft is wobbling.
What was I supposed to do today?

It could be as simple as the prop being out of balance, due to the run in with the oysters.

Worse case scenario, hitting the oyster bent the prop shaft which in turn screwed up the seals around the prop shaft and now seawater is penetrating into the foot . Ask me how I could imagine all this happening.

Panama City or Moultrie.

I recommend Moultrie. In fact I'm taking 1 this week.

Just pulled and re-installed prop. Shaft looks straight, it ran without any noise so if it still makes noise on the water I guess its the Weedless Wedge II. The TM prop was pretty chewed-up.

Anyone know where they sell TM props? I am going to Froogle it.

$20 at the walmart in Bainbridge, and $15 for just the plain Weedless wedge.

I stopped by the place in Attapulgus today. They seemed OK. On their web site they have a 101lb MK Saltwater for $675. May be reconditioned, I don't know.

Pulled the prop and the washer in there looked like the prop was mis-seated. So I re-installed and it ran fine out of the water, forward and reverse, all speeds.

The prop is pretty chewed-up so if it still makes noise I will put a new prop on her. The WalMart on Apalach doesn't have props for 80# motors. I checked.

Hey WalMart on Thomasville doesn't have any 4" props either but they do have HeDogs on sale for $2.95.
