Trolling Rod/Reel Combo

Anyone know any good trolling Rod/Reel combos that are not like 500 dollars that I can use for Cobia/Mack/Grouper?

Here is a good deal at boaters world on the Penn GTI reel and Penn rod combo. I have a couple of these and have been very satisfied with performance.

The TLD 25 is a good reel. I've got two that I've had for about 5 years. So far so good. Used them as my Grouper rig and for trolling with the down rigger. I've got both on a 5' stand up rod ( Broom stick) .

I guess I shoulda said that I don't have THAT particular combo YET
as y'all know, my TLD and rod is still at the bottom of the big pond
but I did love it for trolling and bottom fishin

I think I'm going to go with the PENN combo. Although that Shimano looks sexy as hell.

The long rod will give you good shock absorbtion and leverage. The high speed reel will get grouper out of rocks quick and keep pressure on fast fish. The braid will get your rig deeper and make less scope.
Trust me, it works better than your North FL old school standard 4/0 with a 6' Slammer. (esp. trolling, and not to say that i still dont use the time tested style)

I think I'm going to go well the ugly stick rod so now I'm just checking out reels.

We have a couple of these:

They are very reasonably priced and they have held together well. We bought 2 combos in Albany at American Outdoor Adventures (I think was the name).
We have had no problems with the reels but the rods were El Cheapos and have not held up real well.

I have two combos I put together that I've used the past three years..Done a lot of trolling with them and they have been tough as whitleather....I've been well satisfied with them.
The rods are Shakespeare BTW 60 SUNR's..standups...rated 40-130.. 6' .They are heavy but have worked well for trolling and bottom fishing.
Pretty stiff, you could just about sling a flatiron over the courthouse with em.
Got them at Bass Pro for less than 50 bucks each.
Reels are Penn Senators 3/0... Use 65 Powerpro backed up with 30lb Trilene Big Game.

I like your thinkin' Sundown, I have been looking for a heavy rod in this price range for a couple of 4/0's that I have.
