I really didn’t want to write this report after everything that went wrong on this fishing trip with my daughter. We bundled up good and put the boat in at the fort on Saturday morning around 9:00 am. I knew there was a fishing tournament going on and I didn’t’ want to distract you all from the tournament, or scare all the fish away. :-D Our plan was to try the sheepie holes on the way down river on the way to the gulf. After our final stop at the wreck, and one tiny tinny rock bass to show for our efforts, I headed east of the lighthouse. The tide was on the rise and I thought I had enough water to clear the big old oyster bar that extends out from the lighthouse. I have gone around that old oyster bar more times than I can count, but today was going to be “differentâ€

Not quite sure whether or not I should thank you for the report. :smt009

At least you were both ok. And I imagine you won't hit the long bar in front of the lighthouse again. And at least you got out to spend time with your daughter, which is probably what matters the most. Heck, that all sounds better than not being on the water.

Over all it was nice. Water visibility was 6 to 8 feet, even with all the rain we've been getting. There was a large school of big mullet hanging around Grey Mare. The grass on the flats was healthy and flourishing. We got over the oyster bar mishap, and I sure won't do that again

And no one will ever hit that crab trap again....

I really admire her for going out with me in such a cold day. Sometimes I let her take the helm for short periods.

It turned out to be rather calm afternoon. She loves to go out when the fish are biting. She gets to enjoy some Time with Dad and visa versa. The dolphins coming so close to the boat was quite awesome. I wish I had my camera ready...

My daughter wanted to take them home, but I didn't have a hammer to knock them off the crab trap. Maybe next time I am out I'll go and pluck a dozen off for lunch. I know exactly where I left the trap. The location will be my secret for now.

Thanks all !

Thanks BD, I am very proud of her. I am trying to teach her to get up and keep going after a fall. She will go fishing with me when no one else in the family will dare to come along. :D She loves catching trout in the spring. Next time we'll just take either the inside cut around or just stay in the channel and take the long way around that old oyster bar.

I put the old stainless steel prop (fom the old evinrude 85hp) and put it on the newer 70hp. No great losses on my end.

Thanks All
