Hey, I'm going to try to make my way to East River sometime and slay the Reds. I was wondering if they're lots of Rocks out there or just a few?

Not that many rocks in East River, Mojo. But, there are tons of oyster bars.............With a few rocks mixed in.

Try not to run over that kayak this weekend in there. It will just mess up your boat.

If you'r speaking of the East River next to the Lighthouse... there may not be many rocks but the entrance is a mine field of oyster bars. There are other areas further in that are also populated . Will depend somewhat on what kind of rig your going to take in there. My partner and I spent a lot of time last Saturday in the East River (along with several other boats) and we came up with one of the most productive water hauls you could ever hope for. Observed one party who ran across a bar they didn't know was there while trying to navigate around one that was obvious. Went quite a ways back in and then up into another side creek and never got a bite. Saw some very nice bait size mullet activity which started around 12:30 after the water warmed up a bit but did not appear that anything was chasing them. Most of the activity we saw was along the South bank. May have been just an off day so don't be turned off based on my information alone.

I have a 180 Bay Scout. The boat has a 10 inch draft. I can always use my trolling motor to move around and the motor all the way tilted up though.
I guess what I should really ask if am I screwed for low tide or could I go in at high and low tide?

You'll be fine with a rising tide.

I seriously doubt you'll be slaying reds in the east river. TinCan and I have only found them there once in any real numbers. I have put a lot of time in fishing the east river and its tributarys and have been disappointed so many times that I'll only fish it when I absolutely have to.

I'm just trying to help a brother out. I'll tell you where not to go. I just won't tell you where to go.

Or I could be throwing him off the scent trail by playing down the east river.

We caught a bunch of redfish in the East River this past weekend. Unfortunately, we were fishing in a trout tourney. We caught ours on white Gulp 3" shrimp around some of the deeper areas in the East River. We found that in front of a few of the tributary mouths, there was some deeper water and we anchored in there and caught a good number of slot reds.

Sir Reel, I believe that was us that found the barely underwater oyster bar as we idled past you. Either you or your partner made us feel really awesome when after the fact you added, "there's an oyster bar there". I'm still catching crap from my friends about that.

The East River is a quality place to fish, but watch out for the bars!

I love the east river but getting into it is a maze and I have seen plenty of boats stuck on the bars waiting on the tide to come in. Good luck! Mapsource software can help you.
