can anyone diagram the proper set up of one made from a 20 gal plastic drum. I was thinking of 2 pumps one to fill and one to drain. Turn on the drain pump once the tank is full to recirculate with fresh water constantly. Or put it on a dive platform with one pump and just have a large overflow with a strainer.

Thanks

You're going to have to place at least 1 pump below the water line for it to prime. If you're going to do that, a single 1000 GPH pump shoulld be sufficient. Run it all the time, with a large overflow,

Like TC said, no need to pump out. Just put in a large enough overflow tube placed at the level you wish the barrel to fill to.

I built one for a friend out of an 8 gallon bucket. Put a 500gph pump below the waterline and ran a hose to the top of the bucket with an aerator head. Put an overflow hose going back out and put a hole in the bottom with a plug for a drain. We kept 30 pinfish alive in it for 2 days.

I use two large airator stones in my bait tank and the high air level puts the bait on streroids.
