Suspending Jerk Baits

Post by Ken K »

There are articles in this months "In Fisherman" and FS about fishing jerk baits ( Rapala Husky Jerk, Rattling Rogue, etc.) Supposed to be a good cold water bait. Ya'll ever use them?

Suspending jerk baits? Whoever heard of tearin up the reds on suspending jerk bait? I would never fish a suspending jerk bait in redfish country, away from the grass line, on a high tide, most any time of the year. Don't waste your money on those things, Ken. In fact, I'll buy um all up, just because I'm a nice guy, and you won't even be tempted to waste your money. (Black and Gold Pro Model Rattlin Rogue)

I was thinking more of trying them on bass. At least now I know not to waste my time using them when I hit the saltwater flats this spring.

Yeah, and Tin Can definately didn't wear me out, even though I was throwing a Bomber that looked just like his Rattlin Rogue. :D Ok, yeah, he did. Funny how he didn't offer to buy my Bombers.

Ken, they work well in both salt and fresh water. They work very well for redfish.

I bought a lot of these in the US, on a Trip a few years ago.
They have proved deadly for Northern Pike, on the big pits and lakes.
I should imagine they would work well on any predatory fish of this kind.

Huskey Jerks are awesome for cold water bass. You can let it sit for a couple of minutes if you have to. They can't stand it. Never used them in SW.

chugbug, you are so right, I get most of my pike strikes, when I stop the retrieve for a few moments.
It can also be the same for surface lures.

When you think about it, bait fish don,t spend all their time moving about.
Its when they stop, they are at their most vunerable.

Chug and Cran, that's another one of those baits there is no wrong way to work. If what you're doing with the bait isn't catching fish, try something else.

Wil, I'll give ya a quarter for that Bomber.

My friend, the brass monkeys are walking around looking mighty fearful. :(.
Still, it makes you appreciate the hot weather. :)

But, we don,t get any "hot weather". :(

Never, ever throw a suspending jerk bait in a river near rocks in swft current
It's a small world, unless you had to paint it.

I found a small "Super Rattin Rogue Jr." at Wally World. Managed to catch one small bass on it. One more than I landed on anything else. I did hook one on the ever popular black Trick worm but he got off.
