3/9 Slept from midnite until 3:30 a m. Got up showered dressed and went to meet Butch at 4:30. We left home and hit the Interstate to Monticello exit, dropped down to 27/19 and on in to Perry. Unfortunately Wilson's Bait and Tackle was open. Had to stop. $95 dollars later we went to Pounceys for a good country breakfast. Called Birddog to see if he and ReeL Slow wanted something to eat. Being the type person he is he declined, hoping to get to the ramp before us.
We arrive at the ramp about 7 a m and quickly launch. I pulled around to the motel to park and wait for Butch to come down the canal.
Seatrout99 was in the parking lot playing parking police and told me if I left the truck where it was he would give me a ticket. I had no choice but to leave it because no other parking was available.
Got on the boat with Butch and headed out the canal. By the time we got to the Resume speed sign we had decided where we would try first. With a stiff breeze from the East we went south.
Got to our first fishing hole to find BirDog and Reel Slow harrassing OUR trout.
After a brief VHF conversation they left for safer waters. Within 30 minutes we found out why they left. NOT A BITE.
We left to go to the opposite end of Taylor county,on the way we see something bobbing in the water. Upon investigation we retrieve a new FRABILL landing net. We run ahead another 12 miles or so and start fishing. The next 9 hours on the water produced no keeper fish in the boat.
Got back to the dock about 5:30 to meet up with our Saturday guests for dinner at THE HOTDOG STAND. After waiting 2 hours to get and consume our meals we went back to the room for a good nights rest. That did not happen either. By 11 o'clock Butch had become quite ill.By 3 a m he announced he had to leave to go home and get medical attention.

3/10 By now it is 5:30 in the morning and with no sleep the rest of us get up to shower and get ready,OneKeeper,Troutrent and Little Trout were all staying together.
I meet up with TinCan and give him the tournament forms collected from the night before. Members and guest start pouring in like salt from a shaker.Enthusiasm was in the air. Everyone was excited and ready to catch lots of trout fish. Got around to meet as many new folks as I could while wating for Butch's guest to arrive to explain what happened to Butch.
The clock was ticking. Once he got there and squared away it was 6:30 and everyone was gunning motors ready to go. TinCan gave the go ahead, and away they went.
We were last out the canal with another boat following that we are going to direct to a fishing hole. They follow us and we drop them off a few miles down. All the way my partner is describing the first hole we will fish. Where the rocks are, where the drops are etc. He says if no one has been on it yet it should be good for a quick 5 trout. His second cast on it lands a nice 24 inch trout. His partner nearly knocks it off with the dip net. A boat moves in on us and the bite stops. We move a few hundred yards and do the same thing again. A boat moves in we leave again. This went on for every hole we fished for the rest of the day.
Any place we were going that he fishes would be bypassed if someone was on it. Any place we fished that a boat moved into,we left it.
On one hole my partner hooks into a 26/27 inch trout at the same time I hooka good 19,it was boated. My partners fish had made several head shaking runs from the boat and finally threw the hook about 6 inches away from the net.
We estimate releasing between 30 and 35 keeper trout for the day,the shortest trout caught was 16 1/2 inches.
Run and Gun was the approach used all day and it worked just well enough to come in behind BirdDog and Reel Slow.

JT you had one heck of a weekend. Was sorry Butch got sick and hope he is feeling better! I think I'll stick with the burgers at the hotdog stand....KB Marina will probably need to pump their septic tanks after Butch's night

For the record I pleaded with BD to stop for breakfeast but he said "stay in your seat or I'll thump ya good" :o

He is rude by his nature. Says the same thing to Chalk and TinCan.
I think he learned it from Tom Keels.

Well, Butch would have been on the winning Team/Boat had he not gotten sick.
The dark side is,if he had been there the winning weight probably would have been higher. :-D
