I got the opportunity to fish with a good friend of mine today. We were the 2nd boat in at the LH this morning. Ran half throttle until we had a enough daylight to open her on up. We got in position not long after sunup and immeadiately began catch pup reds. Must've put 15 in the boat. All 18" or less.
Boat traffic was pretty heavy, so we decided to ease on to the west hoping for better reds. We found more pups, though a couple inches bigger than the earlier ones. After another 5, we moved further west.
Picked up a couple of good trout then as the tide bottomed out the bite stopped. Very little action during the low. A small trout here and there.
Once the water turned, the trout bite got hot. We had 10 , 19" trout in the box by 12:45-1:00. We threw back another 10, then went looking for better reds.
Saw 1 school of reds with lockjaw. Must've been 75 fish in the school. Continued on. Seemed the trout had either eaten or run off all the bigger redfish.
Finally found a good school of mullet with some nice reds mixed in and talked 1, 25"er into biting. With that 1 in the box and an earlier 20"er, we had a full limit of trout and reds. Ending on a high note we headed in.
Caught 'em on spoons and soft jerkbaits.
Beautiful day out there, though the wind blew a gale.
I had a great time, James.
Can't wait til next time.
