Left the fort at daylight. There was a light southeast breeze on the flats, and the water temp was 73 at 8 this morning. Went deep to start, cause there wasn't any water up shallow. Caught 2 trout, 2 spanish, and got cut off half a dozen times. Got tired of donating tasckle and headed shallow. First stop shallow was worth 4 keeper trout, all over 18". This was a spot I had never fished.
Around noon the light breeze turned into a steady 10 out of the south. Moved to spot 2 and immediately caught a 24" trout. Released the fish and threw back to the same area, and hooked up again. Didn't take long to figure out this wasn't a trout. The first red of the day was 33 inches. Followed a school for a while and cqaught 9 more. Then I remembered I had orders from Jumptrout to THINK TROUT. Went trout lookin and found a few more.
Total for the day:
12 trout from 17" to 24"
11 reds from 18" to 33"
2 spanish
1 sunburn
(First day of the year in shorts and sandals)
Headed in at 4:30. The water temp was up to 78 by then.
Sure did beat workin.
