Ecofina (late report)

My son was on spring break this week and since he had a little break from baseball and school work he was itching to go to Ecofina. He didn't have to ask but once since I been itching to go ever since quail season ended.
After checking and double checking everything in the boat we were off Sunday morning(3-25). After stoping at the Walmart in Moultrie for eats and more eats we were on our way.
Got in the water around 2:30 and made our way out of the river (the beauty of that area never grows old for us) we saw a rather LARGE
Aligator near the mouth.
We fished just east of the river in close for the remainder of the afternoon and caught several short reds in the creek mouths working our way east. Late in the evening as the high tide was topping out I started picking up trout near the grass, then BAM a huge fish exploded on my plug, I was thinking red fish the whole time, after a really good fight my son gets the net under a huge trout, 23 inches and fat!
The next morning (mon. 26th) my son was sick from all the pollen that has been blowing around so I left him in the bed and launched at daylight and was the only person at Ecofina, Mondays are nice
, I motored out of the river with a cool breeze in my face and decided to start at the end of the river behind possum cap island because I had a huge red break me off there a couple of years ago and took my favorite lure. The first couple of casts were unfruitful and then bam a 17" red exploded on my top water super spook jr. , that was fun. I continued on around the shoreline with no strikes until I reached the creek mouths west of the river, something got my attention as I was working my lure and i stoped to look away and the water exploded in front of the boat, oh thats where my plug was just sitting in the water 
! After a breif fight I netted a beautiful 23'' red. I contunued on around and caught a couple of trout and then I approached an oyster bar that was away from the grass line and something happen that was a first for me, I caught 3 reds on three casts! That was a hoot! I knew Jordan, my son, wanted a red something bad so I headed back in to pick him up. After I got back he was feeling better and ready to fish, we went back out and proceeded to the oyster bar that produced for me. After ancoring down tide from the bar he cast to it and hooked up with a nice 22" red that put up a fight! He said that he thought the fish would break his wrist! That made the trip!
The next morning (tues. 27th) we could only fish until noon before heading home so we headed west almost to Aucilla and fished in 3 1/2 foot water. We started picking up trout as soon as we stopped. We were catching shorts to keepers on 3 to 1 basis. Then around 10:00 we moved back toward Ecofina in 4-5' water and picked up several nice keepers and one spanish. My son was proud of his spanish, the first he's ever caught.
The trip was great, we caught fish on top water spooks, flukes and shallow running hard baits. We can't wait to get back!
