Late Weekend Report

Thursday 3/29---Got to Econfina about 3 p.m. and decided to run out by myself for a couple hours to look for some fish for the weekend. Headed toward Rock Islands to hit a few creek mouths. The second or third point I stopped on I started catching a few fish. I caught 4 or 5 17" reds and then broke off a good one(probably b/c I didn't check my line for frays). After retying I immediately had a 20+" trout to straiten out the wighted hook I was using on a jerkbait. As aggravated as I was I remembered I could still be at work. Moved around a little looking for some trout but didn't find any. The water was really stained so I decided to change plans for Friday. Loaded the boat at 5:15.

Friday 3/30---Decided to drive to Keaton in search of some better looking water. Got out around 11:00 a.m. and found the wind that never stopped all weekend. We headed north into some much clearer water than the day before. We fished hard in close with the rising tide. We couldn't buy a fish until we eased around one small bar loaded with mullet. Caught 5 16-17" redfish, one keeper at 19", and 2 Trout 24" and 22" in about 20 minutes. Fished awhile longer in close but finally moved out to 4-5' where some buddies were catching some fish. Ended up with 9 trout and 1 red in the box.

Saturday 3/31---Didn't feel like driving back to Keaton so we put in at Econfina around 10:30. Fished 4-5' waiting on some water to move in and only had one trout before lunch. Eased in around the islands to fish some bars but couldn't keep the trolling motor in the water due to the 2' waves. My partner did manage one short red while I was fighting to keep us off a bar but I quickly gave up the fight and headed back to where we could do some less stressful sailing in 3-5'. We ended up with our limit of trout to 19.5" with a couple of throwbacks once we had the limit.

Sunday 4/1---Decided to get in a couple hours fishing but get back in time to clean fish, my nasty boat, and give my wife some relief before she killed me or the kids. We put in at 11 and were out at 1:15. Had 3 trout and one nice spanish in the box. I got home 30 minutes before I said I would, wife was smiling, and the kids were still alive so it turned out to be a great weekend.

Had a great time with friends fish'in, feed'in, drink'in, and card play'in. Life doesn't get much better. If it does don't tell me because I sure couldn't stand it.

:smt006 That's some mighty fine fishing there...understanding wife, kids still alive, and, apparently, a "Gadabout" fishing partner, too! 8) Well done.
