Tale of Two Turkeys

No this is not about TC and Chalk...
Was in a turkey hunting contest Tuesday morning. The contest raises dollars for a worthy cause...
Anyway, teams of 2 hunters try to harvest the largest bird, based on spurs and beard length. There were 40 teams, a limited entry. My partner and I had a "divide and conquer" plan and I struck gold first. Had 3 gobblers working from roost till about 7:50 when I finally got a shot and dropped the dominant bird! It was a great show, with strutting, spitting and gobbling (kind of like Jumptrout at Keaton in 06). When I got to the bird, imagine my surprise when there were no spurs..on either leg, nada
. So call partner he gives me crap and says hold on he's working a bird that is far off, but he thinks a nice one. 30 minutes later I hear the shot, I call, he says "your not going to believe this"...uh oh...nope nada a spur on either leg also!
"Sheeeeuuuut" His bird was tied in the calcutta for heaviest gobbler out of 23 measured that morning, but you guessed it...spur length was the tie breaker.
I have shot a many gobbler but never one with 0 spurs and two in the same day!! Must mean BD and I will have nothing but good luck at Carrabelle
The largest bird that won it 1.5 and 1.625" spurs, 21.5lbs, and an 11.5" beard. That is kind of like a 28" trout
