Method to Free Frozen Steering

Post by CSMarine »

I recently heard mention in another post of an easy way to free a locked up steering cable. Please tell me. I've been fighting froze up cables for years on the old tubs I have to fish out of. I can't beleive someone had a easy way to do it. My brother-in-law's boat is at the shop now because we could not free up his cable.

best way is to replace the cables one day you will break the helm and then you got big trouble if out fishing or just boating.......its not that hard to do it yourself I have done many of them......... and the worst is when you have to pull the motor to get the cable out of the tube........... :(

Absolutely the best thing to do is replace it. They are really not that expensive compared to the amount of labor involved to free it up. Plus once they start to seize up you'll always have problems.
