SGI 4/13/07

Post by birddog »

Reel Slow and I launched from SGI at the bridge early Friday morning. Water was extremely low. We didn't have any trouble launching but only made it half way through the boat basin before we grounded the boat.
About this far from the ramp......

We waited for about an hour maybe a hour and a half.

We had some great entertainment while waiting. Oyster boats were "running the gauntlet" trying to get out. 2 made it. 1 loaded back up and left.
This guy had it figured out, with the boat on cruise control and he and his partner poling furiously.

Finally, we got enough water to claw our way out. It was around 9:00 a.m. before we started fishing.

We fished east and west of the bridge, covering some great looking water. Everything from oyster bars to spotty bottom.

Reel Slow caught 1-16" trout on topwater. :o

We did however find plenty of redfish. Go figure

Looking back, I wish now we would have worked over the schools of redfish we found. Each time we'd hook up with the reds, we'd leave them looking for trout.

Caught the reds on topwater and spoons.

Enjoyed fishing with you again RS. We would have been in the mix Saturday down at Lanark with everybody else. Due to the cancellation, we're still defending. We'll get 'em in September.

Chalk, TinCan, Reel Slow, Skeeter and Little Skeeter, I enjoyed the fellowship Thursday night and Friday night. I look forward to doing it again sometime.

Reel Slow, 3 weeks to SJB. Can't wait.

  Very well done, Birddog! I wish I had one of those camera deals that interfaced with my PC...by the time I get the pics back, who cares! That low tide yesterday kept Gene & I from going out of Aucilla or Econfina - that's why we went out of Keaton Beach (and glad we did). :lick:

Yep. The BeaverTail probably woulda made it. But she would have filled up with water once you hit the 4 footers at the bridge.

Just like a riseing tide floats all boats, true four footers swamps all bay boats :o
