Attention golfers !!!

Just wanted to pass the word along to any of you golfers out there that may happen to practice at Cross Creek......I was informed the other day by their new "GM" that Cross Creek is no longer a driving range but an iron range only. At least, that was told to me in a rather harsh fashion. Here's the scenario:

My in-laws are all golfers and live up north. I live in the south and prefer to fish  When we get together, however we have fished a few times also. I didn't care for it at first, cause I was no good  , but it has started to grow on me over the past 2 years. So, I decided to try to better myself by practicing from time to time to make our family get-togethers a little more competetive. Over the past 2 years, I have practiced numerous times at Cross Creek without incident......till a few days ago  I purchased my usual bucket of balls for the turf, and began to hit irons. With 25 or so balls left, I broke out the driver. After hitting a few balls, I was approached by the GM. He asked me to hit a ball. So I did......right over the back net! First one of the day. He did not like this and informed me that hitting the balls from the turf like that was not permitted. He then proceeded to tell me that I had some kind of nerve to do it right in front of him. I responded by saying that the previous drive was my best of the day and he must have brought me better luck.....trying to be cordial. That didn't help. I volunteered to hit my remaining balls from the mat. He followed. First ball hit the top of the net. He warned me again that if my hit one more out, I was done....then he asked me if I understood. I'm starting to get irritated at this point :x I tee up one more ball and hit. The ball hooks off to the left and right through the gapping hole in the net. He approaches me and tells me that I'm finished. I said," The ball went through the huge hole in your net....that's not my fault." He then informs me that this is an iron only range and that he lets some people drive balls as a courtesy when they obey the rules. He then goes on to tell me that there are 14 other clubs in the bag and that even Tiger Woods would win more tournaments if he would learn to put his driver down :o  Anyhow, I said," Do you want me to leave?"......he said yes I would. I handed him the bucket and said," How are you supposed to get better if you cant swing like you're at the course?" Isn't that what the practice range is for?
I see that there is an article in the Eastside Chronicle about all the changes going on at Cross Creek now. I guess these are some of them.

I've met more Jackazz'z on golf courses and driving ranges than anywhere else.

The first thing cross creek needs to do is fix the nets, especially considering their rates for range balls.

We met a world class one on the Havana course last weekend.

Did you happen to get his name? Is he the short little golf pro, looks to be about 45 or so? I haven't been there in about three weeks but had no trouble last time I was there (though I have trouble reaching the back net) . That place doesn't offer much and the last thing they should do is run customers off. The par three course is in bad shape and there is rarely any turf to hit from on the range. We can just as easlily go to Hillaman or Seminole and hit balls.

He's done that to me before. Comes over and acts like he's interested in how you're swinging. I fell into it once, and annihilated a ball over the net right in front of him. He told me how that was a loss of balls to him, more work for his range guy, and said something (in a rude tone)about not doing it again.
I mumbled something smart, and when he left to go back to the club house I was swinging for the fences :-D

Did they put up a net out beyond that large oak tree straight out, and your clearing it straight out? :o

I thought the net just ran on the sides. Regardless playing their course

yes....it's the short golf "pro." My bro-in-law told me that he was probably pissed off that he can only drive the ball 200 yds. or so and he is a so called "pro" and that his best score is -5 to a +5 on a par 3 course he plays every day  The comment about Tiger was one of the dumbest he had ever heard :o

Amen to what Birddog said about running into more Jackazzes on driving ranges and golf courses. I'm starting to find that out. Chalk, maybe that is what I get for golfing  instead of fishing  I've learned my lesson and your correction is appreciated :smt005

Anyway, I guess the "pro" suffers from "little man syndrom" the more I think about it :smt005  Apparently Seminole will get my business from now on when I'm not giving it to Jerry's

BTW......way to swing for the fences Rocket !!!!!!!

I don't golf but here is take on it. The old man said at the end "Bagger Vance", golf is not a game to be won only played. What kinda crap is that?

DeVoe was leasing the course and the guys that were running it were super nice. He took it back about a year or two ago and everything is "by the book". We use to participate in the Tuesday night tournaments out there but the new owners didn't like us taking up the space before/during and after the tournament and terminated it.

Grim Reaper..... I've been a member at Havana since 1989 and there are certainly our share of ole geezers that think they own the place. I just ignore them and keep on going.

That's the thing about golf. It's not a growing sport and courses depend heavily on repeat customers to stay in business. Any business a course runs off to other courses, and there are plenty of choices in this area, only hurts that one course.

Update: The guy I was referring to is no longer there. Sorry for the mix up. We were talking about two different people.
Apparently this new guy is a real @hole!
The person dolphinatic was talking about tossed my friend out today. Would not even refund his money on the amount of balls he had left in his bucket
He went to work on his drive, and the new guy went and staked out in a golf cart and watched. When one made it through/over the net he swooped in and asked him to leave.
My fried explained how he had been coming there twice a week for the last 8 months, and the new guy said he did not care. :smt011
