In your other post concerning the shark you said you used ladyfish. Are you using them as live bait or cut bait? I've used 'em for cutbait before with some success, but never put one out there live. What size hook are you using? Line?

I've caught some sharks before, but nothing like that. Looks like fun!!!

I use a live Ladyfish anywhere from 12 up to 15 inches will work. I have 20lbs test on a beefstick type rod to six or so feet of 50lbs mono then I go with about 12 to 14 inches of steel leader rated at least 55lbs then I go with a no.7 circle hook (circle hook is important that way the fish hooks itself). I hook the bait from the inside of his mouth out the top part of his head. Hook him in the head so as you drift he's pulled through the water the right way and that way and he won't drown. Put him out back about 50 yards or so. Then set the rod in a holder and do your best to forget about it and keep on fishing. If the sharks are around they'll find him. Be sure to set the drag loose on the rod that way when the shark hits the ladyfish he can take off running, once that happens grab you rod start the motor (because he ran about 150 yards and you have to chase him down or be spooled) slowly tighten you drag and fish on... Have fun and for heavens sakes be careful, sharks are dangerous and I would never bring on in the boat especially is he's six foot, and there's a bunch of five to six footers out there. Here's another tip. If you have a live lady out back and are still catching them during your drift. Get one, fillet it but leave the sides attached and drag it about two feet behind you boat as a chum slick do that especially if you don't get a bite within 30 to 40 mins. The fillet idea also works with spanish and blues, cause their oily and sharks like that...

Thanks for the tips. We caught a few ladyfish last weekend, but didn't use them for anything. May give it a shot this weekend.
