Just joined and this is my first posting but will not be my last.
Put out of Carrabelle @ 9 on Wed. and fished all day trying to find grouper and/or red snapper. I was in 65-80 feet of water all day but they were ellusive. I tried @ Carrabelle barge, Yamaha, Bryson reef and Rose city but turned up nothing. I was bottom fishing and the only thing i pulled up was some triggerfish. I did finally boat a 38" King (my first one ever) while freelining after two cutoffs in about 50 feet of water.
I saw a whole bunch of Cobia some about 60lbs or so but couldn't get them to take any lures or a small live bonita.
So the question is how do you catch Cobia and where are the snapper? From what i hear the grouper are still being caught trolling in 30-40 feet of water

Welcome aboard. Try 90' or better for the snapper.

There are still a pile of grouper being caught trolling in 40-60 ft. We have not done much bottom fishin because of the seas being rough. We have also been getting into kings pretty good at those depths as well. Pay attention to how fast you're trolling as well as what you're trolling with. I like to run a stretch 30 a little farther back than some folks that I've seen.

Welcome. Thanks for the report. I was just wondering though, were those cobia you saw or cuda. On Monday my friend and I did just about the exact same route you did starting at the O Tower and we saw a bunch of Cuda patrolling each reef and as you said they wouldn't bite anything. We didn't see any cobia though.

Anyway welcome aboard.
