What yall think is the best bet for novice fishers in the 10 - 12 age category..

spinning or spin-cast? I'm thinking that anyone with (expert) instruction will be able to throw the spinning outfit...

WalMart had combos the other day for around $16. That way they could take 'em back to the home with them for future fun and enhance the experience.

What say you?

Zebco spin-cast is easier to learn, a spiner will stay with em for life though :o and at that age, they pick whatever you show em up quick

I've had a few of those that are hand-eye "challenged" on the boat and they've always been able to pick up on how to use a spinning reel. I'd think a 10-12 year old could pick it up no problem.

My 6 yr old has just graduated to a spinning rig, but casting is still a work in progress. Practice makes perfect.

I'd start 'em with a pushbutton spincast .. but I'm half crazy. These other guys are 100% looney tunes, so take their advice .. and take a good first aid kit with a quality wire cutter ;-)

I would dare say more kids have learned to fish with a zebco spin cast than any other type reel in the world. I started with a 33 and now I'm up to an 808 :-D

I still like to use a Zebco for tossing CT's. Gonna get an Omega Z03 soon just for that. I like spinners for lures. 8)

I gots a few spinners I said! :D Going soon over to SGO to get a couple more cause my cheap Shakespear and Garcia ain't gonna hold up too long......

Look up the specs on that $50 Omega Z08. And I bet anyone hear that uses Cajun Thunders would admit that it's easier to throw with a Zebco than a spinner or baitcaster.

Do them fish know?

 RodBow has a wonderful idea...also, check out Sports Authority as they have both kinds of rods & reels, with tacklebox, etc., for about the same price ($20)! :smt007
