Aucilla area 5/16

Southern Undertaker and myself had one goal in mind when we left Cairo this morning and that was to put some fresh fish in the boat, and boy was our goal shattered with a great day of fishing. First of all we put in about 7:00 this morning at Econfina and headed toward the Aucilla area. We stopped before reaching our Rocky waypoint and observed a beautiful Econfina sunrise and were armed with 2 15' bream busters with green fish bites on the hook. We had planned to catch some pinfish and go deep and try and catch some Ling Dings and as I began trying to catch bait fish Southern Undertaker took upon himself to start topwater fishing while I done the work and about the 3rd cast bam, drag screaming and I said that has to be a blue or spanish and as soon as I got that out a huge set of yellow lips came to the surface and I like to have broke my neck getting the net and he landed a 24-25" trout and boy was he happy. Guess what there goes the pinsh fishing for the rest of the day. We ended up with our limit by 10:30 and went to the shore line to try some reds. First cast bam, here we go again but it was me this time and finally got the big bar jack in. Dang I thought that was a redfish. After that the action began we landed 6 keeper Reds in 20 minutes. The two keepers was 26 5/8" and the other was 23". What a day. Remember don't let the slack tide stop you from fishing because the trout didn't let up a bit.
