First, thanks to everyone who makes this website a success. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, trying to learn answers to my questions on my own and am amazed at the wealth of knowledge offered here.

I'm a former inshore salt water angler-no, fisherman-who used to live in Mobile and loved to fish Dauphin Island, Mobile Bay and the surrounding rivers for specks, reds, flounder and whatever else was kind enough to bite my hook. Unfortunately, I was relocated to North Alabama (Huntsville) on a duty station change several years ago-I'm active duty military. When I read about the fun you guys are having, it really makes me miss the gulf coast!

I'm fortunate enough to have a week scheduled with family at SGI(see, I have been reading!), I was careful enough to book a place inside the Plantation so I'd at least have Sikes Cut access. I've fished there twice before, just from the jetties, but I obviously wasn't armed well enough for what was biting-broken off more times than I care to remember.

REQUEST-I am searching for a reputable inshore guide for a full day of inshore fishing so I can share that experience with my 2 sons (13 and 17). My oldest got a taste of saltwater fishing when he was younger, but the 13 year old only knows freshwater lakes and streams. I was hesitant to even post this, since I'm sure ya'll are bombed every summer with the whole 'who's a decent guide' question, but because there are so many out there and it's easy to make a website look nice, I decided to take the risk and ask the real subject matter experts.

I'll still be doing some fishing at the cut and a little more on the surf and down at the state park. While it's true that a bad day fishing beats a good day at most anything else, believe me-any day where you can feel the sand on your toes and the wind and surf in your face sure beats a good day fishing anywhere else. If anyone would be kind enough to give me a little nudge in the right direction about the guide question or fishing in general in and around the cut, I'd be most grateful.

Until then, I'll keep scrolling thru the incredible pictures and reading the stories of the trips you've made. One of my all time favorites (so far) HAS to be the cobia story where the 2 neighbors were fishing together. That's great stuff!!

Good morning rrteam3 :smt006

Hope your visit goes well and your able to provide a post of your activities :D

Capt. Randy Peart is a full-time fishing guide in our local area and I believe he has also started a guide service at SGI as well. He is available at 850-421-8049. He'll do a good job for you.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm especially grateful for the guide recommendations. I have checked Gene Strickland of Lanark Village and he looks great, but only carries 2 fishermen at a time. With 2 teenage boys, I'd risk having to see one of them on Dr. Phil 20 years from now with some sort of pent up resentment about making them miss the fishing trip!

I'll check with Randy Peart tomorrow and post back with my results. I have found a pretty decent prospect, at least from their website, but of course I don't know anything about them. Bookmeacharter.com looks more like a booking place than anything else, but they have some really tempting pics and testimonials that makes them look promising. Any feedback on them would be appreciated!

CPT Reggie, thanks for the input and feedback-actually, sort of wrong on both parts. I'm a master sergeant in the Army(AGR)! I guess I could use the old line of 'I work for a living!' I also appreciate the invite to your NFGFclub-I've checked out the website and it looks like a really cool organization. If time permits, I'd love for my sons to see how ya'll operate. Somehow, I know it would be a memorable experience, especially as opposed to just visiting an area for vacation.

Still looking and reading tons of info-thanks again to everyone for giving me such a warm welcome!

Thanks, all, for the helpful replies. CPT Peart seemed perfect, but he's on vacation thru 3 June. Still hunting, may end up booking thru a service I found called BMAC, book me a charter. Not final, but my timeline is growing more narrow and I'd like to get things finalized before Friday.

Thanks, too, for the private messages and other suggestions. You guys obviously have a very close knit fishing community and should cherish it!
