K-TOWER

Post by CATCH 22 »

Got a late start Sat. 5-19 bout 10 am headed out to K to chum up some cobes, only saw one and was'nt biting the live pin/greenbacks or jigs probably cause all the cudas, had to be 80-100 of them toothy sob's out there. Did manage 1 Gag and 1 King on free lined greenback, was'nt expecting that, bout spooled me. After 2 hrs of shorts and cut offs decided to troll Oar reefs for a while, huge bait pods every where. Trolled stretch 25's & 30+, no Groupas but did have fun with the Bonitos, they were jumping every where, never seen so many in 30 yrs of fishing round here. Seas were 4-6 at 10 but laid down nice in evening 1ft or less. Heading back motor dropped cylinder(s) had to putt in from bird rack. Did get to see nice sunset. No complaints on a fun day with Son and Bud
Water temp: 75-76
Tally:
1 gag 26"
1 King 42"/1 short king
1 shark
7 nice Bonitos
Numerous grunts
Sunburn/Backache/Broken motor(headache) :-D

Bait: All live
Pinners
greenbacks
finger mullet
Red/white 25's worked best on lil tunies

We could not even get the cuda to bite out there on K-tower, though my bud kept throwing everything he had at 'em. Those first two sharks were enough for me.
We did get some kingfish over the OAR reef trolling later, and lost a monster cobia (~70lbs) right at the boat with two missed gaff shots, after a 25 minute fight. If you see that fish, I want my lure back!!
