Econfina 5/26/07

Met up with BlindHog#3 and Showboat early this morning and headed down to the Econfina. Got out the channel and ran a ways towards the Aucilla to a "secret" spot that JT had told me about...it was so secret that 7 boats were already anchored on it when we got there.
We headed in close to the grass in hopes that some of the trout and reds would be holding in shallow. We threw topwaters, Ty Smith Specials and twitchbaits and caught a few fish here and there. We caught 5 trout in the slot, but none over 20" during our first couple drifts. We then moved out into some deeper water in hopes that the trout were out deep. We picked up a few slot fish on our drifts, but once again, none over 20". At this point the wind was whipping pretty good out of the NE and so we went in shallow to a bar marked on the GPS and deployed the drift sock to slow us down some. Within the first two casts I said, "Man, I really wanna catch a redfish." Showboat replied, "Dude, you aren't gonna catch one of those this deep." Two twitches of the rod later, his reel starts singing...redfish on. I then hooked up and we had our first redfish double of the day. The second drift over the bar, me and Showboat hooked up with nice mid-slot reds and BH3 had a blue on at the same time...a sweet little triple.
We finally figured out (after three drifts and 5 redfish on the same spot) that there was a school of redfish holding on the bar, so we anchored up and proceeded to slay them for an hour or so. We even caught a few multi-spotters. At this point it was around 1:45 and I wanted to get back to the channel with plenty of water to spare, so we took it to the house.
It was ridiculous how packed that parking lot was...every single person in the state of Ga. must've made the trip to the Econfina this morning.
Final tally - approximately 2 limits of trout 16" - 19.5" ; 13-14 redfish 18-25", a couple blues and a couple of my favorites, catfish. We caught most of the fish in 3-5' of water on jigs.
BH3 and Showboat...enjoyed it...look forward to doing it again in the future...
