I'm thinking about possibly buying an inflatible kayak for flyfishing out of. I've got a 23 foot boat and would like to be able to keep it in the "big boat". Does any one know any pros and cons about inflatible kayaks? And also what make and model inflatible would be best.
Also does anyone know what setups to use for fly fishing out of one?
I've heard some people say that a longer rod is a must. Does anyone agree? Disagree?

I think the cons are pretty obvious. I mean you are using hooks, and there are Oyster Bars. We do not have the ideal conditions conducive to fishing out of an inflatable. I would use a good brand kayak.

I saw some inflatibles that are supposedly "hook proof", and wouldn't tear on rocks or coral. But I think that the oyster bars would probably rip it up.
Does anyone else know anything about inflatibles?

I wouldn't go with an inflatable. If you want something to take on your boat, go with the smallest open cockpit or sit on top that you can find. Maybe something like the Heritage Featherlite or Redfish 10. You give up things like good tracking in a small kayak, but then you wouldn't get that out of an inflatable anyway.

I've always used a 9 ft flyrod in my kayak, but then again, I prefer to stand up and cast. You're not going to acheive standing in an inflatable, or in a lot of the smaller kayaks. I'm by no means the worlds best caster, but even the guys I know that are really good say that casting a flyrod while in a seated position in a kayak is pretty tough/ uncomfortable, because of your proximity to the water line. The Heritage Redfisher 10 is probably one of the most stable small kayaks you'll find that you could stand in. Mike Teal at the Fly Shop carries Heritage boats and would let you test paddle them if you want. Hope some of this helps.
