Trolling motor shaft sticking, any suggestions?

Need help in lubing the shaft on my Minn Kota trolling motor. We have not used it much and last time we did it was REALLY hard to get the shaft to slide through the bracket and into the water. After cleaning it off is there anything to put on the shaft to help keep it free from sticking. My first thought was regular wax but did not know if it might cause problem if it dries out.
And no, I will not try K-Y.

The owners manual says to lubricate it with silicone spray, thats what I use on mine.

Came on the boat used, no manual plus I don't speak spanish and have no idea what a manual is? Never seen one never used one.
I will try the silicone spray though, seems like it should work fine. Thanks for all the replies.
