Hot water

I went out to my favorite fishing hole, Lake Monkey Business, for a few hours yesterday morning. The last time I fished there, two weeks ago, the water temperature was 82 degrees. Yesterday, it was 89. That's a big jump in a fortnight.

I caught six bass from just-barely-bigger-than-the-plug up to about four pounds. Schools of shad were roaming all over the section of the lake by the dam, but I never saw any bass hitting them.

I caught a couple of small fish on a spinner bait right after daylight in shallow water. Once the sun got up I cast a RatlTrap along the creek channel where it seemed that a lot of fish were suspended.

The four pound fish came on a Junebug Gitem Big Flapper. She came off a spot by the dam where the water goes from 2 feet to about 8 feet deep. This shallow water close to deep water location has been a big producer.

Have you and your friend been out there yet?

If you see a huge, white submarine just below the surface, that is a grass carp. That son of a gun must be three feet long.

I also noticed that there are now two small alligators in the pond.

I understand that the mercury level in that water is so high that, if I did eat them, I wouldn't need a thermometer to tell the temperature any more.

I have kept busy lately fishing in Iamonia.
