Does having a sonar fishing finding tool make a big difference yak fishing? If I'm really missing out, what's available out there on working mans budget?

Hummingbird and Lowrance have some nice low budget options but most of the water we fish in around here is pretty shallow and very clear. I have used both of those i recommended and use nothing in the way of depth or fish finders now.

Depends on where you're fishing I guess, but I have found if I go at low tide and use a wood pushpole or wade, or both, I get a pretty good idea of what is where.
I have also been known to take a mask and jump in, or at least stick my head over the side, if the water's clear enough.
A good way that I have found to locate rock holes is by castnetting mullet.
Another reason for the mask, when I have to go get the net, again.
