PVC Push Pole

Ive read on here that a few of you have PVC pushpoles - what size PVC did you use, 1-1/2? Poling a 17' Alum boat and cant see spending the high prices for a fancy fiberglass one.

I don't have one. I made one out of a wooden 1.5" closet rod dowel and put several coats of poly on it.
I have been told to use 1.5" with another 3/4" slide down inside to add strength with the pvc.

A 1 1/2 inch PVC is all you need to push a 17' boat.
Just put a cap or tee on the end.

I've got two of these curtain rods that I made flounder gigs out of, the are very strong and you .can pick one up at lowes of home depot relatively cheap

Just what JT51 said, but...... I use 2" schedule 40 with a "T" on the end. Be sure to paint it with a highly visible color, I've lost two on the gulf and 1 on the road. Thank goodness they are easy and cheap to make. One more suggestion....make it air-tight so it won't sink.

Alright ya'all creative minds, I have a 21-foot bay boat - what length & diameter size, materials, etc., do you recommend?

If you have a 21' boat, buy a factory built push pole, at least 20' or 21' long.

I left one floatin' outside of St. Marks a couple of weeks ago. If you find it, you can borrow it.

If you plan on doing more than useing it to push off of sandbars, mud bottom etc.... better get a pole made for the task. A pvc pole or a wooden one will wear you out pretty quick.

Thanks, I'll look for it Saturday during the HHA thing! If I do find your pole, I'll let you know - you can have it back.
By the way, has anybody caught that cobia with the orange CT in it's mouth off the birdroast offshore of Ochlockonee bay yet?
