Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI) just days ago completed their 2007 scallop survey report. Every June, before the season opens, the FMRI samples 20 stations (each 600 m2) in each of nine areas to record adult scallop population sizes before the season starts (in September they conduct post season surveys as well).
At this link you can click on any of nine survey stations to see the results of this years survey, to include the years back to 1994.

Areas of allowable scalloping: From north of the Pasco-Hernando County Line (28.26.016 North at the Aripeka boat ramp) and east and southeast of a line extending due south from the west bank at the mouth of Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County (85.25.84 West).
Overall, the 2007 scallop population looks like it will be a better scallop season than 2006.
Have fun scalloping.
