Keaton Scalloping 7/1/07

Howdy folks. Went scalloping yesterday around Keaton and thought I'd let y'all know how we did. First of all, I was not able to leave the house until 11:00 due to other obligations, so we did not get to the ramp until around 11:30. We were able to put right in, and even got a spot to park in the parking lot.
We motored down the canal and into the channel. Once we got almost to the end I got out of the channel, blew up the tube and gave the kids turns riding until we got to a spot.

Like I said, we got on the water late, so we weren't as interested with meat as we were just trying to have a little fun, enjoy family, and thanking God for giving us these opportunities.

Of course, we got some some scallops too. Good times only go so far without a little something to gnaw on.

Time to put them on ice and shuck them at the house.

We had a great time on the water. My mom, wife, and two kids went. Although it was a short afternoon trip, I am thankful I got a chance to go. I found it most productive in 5-6 foot of water. We went shallower, but were not as productive. I would've tried deeper, but some of my companions we not comfortable going more than 6 foot.
I would say that scallops are better than they have been the last couple years off of Keaton. We got a good bunch in a short matter of time while playing and enjoying eachother's company. Still not as good as in years past though. I am starting to feel like one of those oldtimers that begin their sentences with "I remember when..."
Anyway, hope everybody else had a good weekend, and enjoy the 4th.
