We did well at keaton. What's the trick so that your scallops will be open when you clean them?

Some people say they open easier if you put them on ice before cleaning them.

Put the ice in the bottom of the cooler and then put the scallops on top of the ice.
If you put the Ice on top of them or too many in one cooler-
the ones on the bottom will not have room to open.
We split ours into two coolers at the dock with Ice in the bottom of each.

Sharp Knife

Had some success on opening day which was our first ever attempt. We had a lot of closed tight scallops. A sharp paring knife made it pretty easy to break the seal and they popped right open. Five gallons with just my 11 year old and me cleaning was a bit daunting but not bad once we got the hang of it.

Went on the fourth. Left the LH pool at 8:30....went east, in 6 to 7 feet of water. Stayed inbetween the clumps of people in front of big bay and stony bayou. Limited out in under an hour.......10 gallons was our limit.

I figured out on closed ones. To put the side that opens straight down against the cutting board and whack it a couple of times with the back of the spoon. It caves in the front of the shell enough to get the spoon in. Got to where I could do 1 every 10-15 seconds.
