Left Shields at 7:15 with the 11 year old. Started out on the east flats pretty close to shore. Good trout bite on the high tide. The boy got his biggest trout to date - 23 inches -- and no help from dad except with the net (and I tried to lose it for him on the first attempt). Kept that and one other. Caught quite a few more legal fish, and many shorts/lady fish rock bass. The fish were hitting very well on top water (red and white Zara Puppy) and under the popping cork. Had a high overcast which extended the activity about an extra hour.
Water was slick glass. Moved a little east and a little deeper and picked up 3 gallons of scallops without trying too hard. The water was so calm and clear I could stand on the deck and direct the boy to the scallops on bottom.
The boy was bored with the snorkel and wanted to fish some more.
Ran out to the edge of the flat and played with the bluefish/ladys/sharks under a boiling sun at noon. What a great day -- a bit of a crowd, but nothing to get exorcised over. Then again, I've started lobster miniseason in Miami at midnight, so my feelings about what is "crowded" may be different. . . .
