Monday at St Marks on my ride back in my boat started cutting back like one or two of the cylinders wasn't firing then the engine alarm started going off. There was alot of grass on top of the water that had been chopped up from all of the boats, i'm wondering if my water inlets got clogged up but when I stopped there was no grass around the foot and the pee hole was pumping out plenty of water. After about two minutes the alarm went off and I motored back in with no problem. Then After I drove the boat on the trailer and ran the gas out, while my buddy was pulling me out with the the motor off the alarm started sounding again. Any help would be appreciated. It's an 03 model, all service has been done, and no it's not low on oil.

My 2005 90 Merc did the same thing and it was a temperature sensor. Get it checked, it will cause the motor to overheat if thats what it is. If thats a lie, I didnt tell it the first time, just repeated it. Good luck.

You might want to check for a clear fuel bowl in the fuel system. Sometimes (not sure on your model) they put a site glass in there with a water sensor.

90 horse merc - This time of the year with all the floating grass my merc will run hot. The water intake on the Merc is in the front of the foot. This makes it more susceptible to picking up grass, Installed a water pressure gage and watch it like a hawk. Also had a problem with a short in the wires under the shift cowling. this will alert, but water pressure is the bible. hope this helps!

The three most important guages are as follows:
1-Water Pressure (forget about temperature guage, by then it's too late)
2-Tachometer
3-Voltmeter
