7/19 Lanark, Paddlin' the Mayhem

Post by Littoral »

Got in about 2 hours this morning and all the dang fish flying by my head made a mess out of all my gear. I started out working the grass & a nice bunch of trout cooperated on topwater. Then I noticed the birds working, way out there.
Am I really going to paddle that far when the odds are the whole thing will be long over by the time I get there?
Ok, I'll paddle that far.
By the time I get there it was only better. Acres and acres of teeth slashing bait. Being in the middle of it all wondering where to cast I took a moment to just watch the scene. It really was awesome.
Enough of that. The Chug Bug flies and gets blown up on the first pop.
Ladyfish Bluefish & Spanish. I caught them steady until I had to go.
Don't smoke but I sort of needed a cigarette after that much fun.
:D
Here's the one trout pic I got before entering the mayhem.

Way to go, I tell you what, those ladyfish get the worst rep for a fish that probably fights better for its size than most other inshore fish. Its strong, fast and jumps like water on a hot stove. I bet with fly gear its a blast.

What time did you catch the topwaters and at what depth?
