Greetings Fly Fisherpersons! Capt. Reggie here extending an invitation to get together sometime down the road soon (August - Sept) and catch some fish on the fly rods!

IDEA: How about we "experienced" fly fishermen, with boats, extend an invitation to those "iinexperienced" or "wanna-be" fly fisherpersons, on the BBF.net and in the NFGF Club, or without boats, to join us in a 1/2-day fishing experience at a location TBA?

Give me some feedback here! Let's see IF we have enough experienced verses inexperienced people to match up with boats to make it worth a trip!

Unless someone else with more planning skills & experience wants to jump in here (JT51, TinCan, etc.), I will volunteer to "spearhead" this operation ONLY IF I CAN GET SOME HELP DOING IT!

I'd provide gas boat food and beer for a few free lessons!! Although my boat has a Ttop and wont go where Chalk's boat will!!

I've got a 6# and an 8# but certainly don't fit in the experienced cat.
My girls would always say, "remember the time you had that fly thing that almost caught us in the head"? And that was bream fishing!

I need to see it done by a know it all!

Reggie, You mentioned Len Elzie the other night - would he be the same as Leonard Elzie?

BadBehavior & RodBow - my oldest son is still mad at me for "barely missing (his) &$#%@ head" several times from last week's scalloping adventure when I let loose some casts on the bow with him up there too! I learned several things from that trip we need to consider right now for those of us that will agree to take "novice" as well as experienced fly fishermen.

#1 = ONLY one fly caster on the bow at a time...everybody else stand back or sit down (duck, whatever).
#2. One caster on the bow, one on the stern...everybody else, sit down or duck under cover (the T-Top of Bimini Top)!!!
#3. Having a T-Top or Bimini Top will not keep one from fly fishing, you just have to be careful of the direction of your casts!

Anybody else see any other problems we need to consider?

My only experience in salt water with a fly rod was with a guide.

He would turn the boat so the fly would come no where near him.

The only close call he put the push pole in the loop and shut me down.

He gently reminded me if he had to, he would break one of his $age fly rods with the push pole to defend himself.

He also made it clear would bill it to my credit card for the $age fly rod about $450.00.

If you are sight casting one man poles, one man fishes, no casts over the length of the boat.

I do have a wonder wand and I think it is an eight weight.

I would love to go I have a few flies will provide my boat.

Fly rod bream I am good to go, not the same rod .

Fly fishing in saltwater 1 small Tarpon in the Mangroves in Cancun on my honey moon.

I couldn't get the Snook or the cuda to eat.

I am experienced, but don't fish your area. I'd love to hook up with somebody that knows the area and even provide free lessons for them.

Still working on my casting but I'll poll the boat for almost anyone who is willing/able to do the same.

I have decided to call this fly fishing adventure - Cosmic Casting, in honor of my departed old fly fishing partner, Owen Killman!

NOTE: As of 7/26, we now have 16 names (pending Chalk making up his mind) in the pot and I suspect more to follow by Sunday evening's final tally! I am open to suggestions as to when & where to get together! Some of you out there with organizational skills in excess of mine (which are puny), especially if you are in this mix, need to help here!

I'd love to go under 2 conditions:

1. My guide must be blindfolded through out my warm up period & fishing with the fly rod;

and

2. My guide may not have any type of equipment which might record any picture and/or sound during said fishing trip

This is my first post to the forum but I have been following it for some time. I would love to get together with some locals who are interested in polishing their flyfishing skills. I do not have a boat but would be more than happy to trade platform duty with someone. Anything is better than wading around on the flats while the "man in the gray suit" lurks nearby.....

If I wanted to buy a saltwater flyrod set up, where and what kind. I imagine Heath @ SGO can get me whatever I need , I just dont know what to get. I d like to buy a nice outfit but wouldnt want to spend more that $1000.00. I would hope I could buy rod , reel , line and a few flies with that. That may sound stupid but I have no idea what they cost. No smart A's please, I really want to learn to sling a fly!! Anybody who flyfishes want to help a brother out with some 411??

$1000. should get you started but then you've got to have all the cool fly fishing stuff that goes along with it like $20 for what amounts to really a $1 pair of fingernail clippers( just with Orvis/Sage/TIBOR/ABEL etc... on them. And apparently one fly rod/reel is useless. You must have every weight rod from 6-15 ( reels to match and of course extra spools for the reels) which happen to be about 75% of the total cost of the reel itself.
Only kidding! I think I've got moderately good stuff, a good 8wt outfit and I've got maybe $400 in the whole thing. Plus I've got a buddy that compulsively ties flies Ever seen Men in Black II? remember the guy that was the mail sorter in the post office? Thats him at the vice
