Officials Issue Beach Warning

A health warning for those of you heading to the beach this weekend.

Beach bacteria is present at several area beaches.

Florida health officials say advisories are issued in Mash's Island and Shell Point in Wakulla County.

In Franklin County, warnings are issued at Carrabelle Beach, Alligator Point and one area of St. George Island.

And in Taylor County, warnings are issued at all of the beaches.
The warnings mean there is a high level of fecal matter in the water and beach goers should swim at their own risk.

Anyone with cuts or wounds is advised to stay out of the water.

If you want facts goto this site and there is currently no warning in Taylor county - http://esetappsdoh.doh.state.fl.us/irm0 ... fault.aspx

Though I am no scientist nor do I profess to be one, but fecal matter is not a by product of humans only, last I checked.

Your white boat will have brown water marks from Louisiana to Key West...I suspect any boat in the world has the same brown marks, if you travel through an area with silt.

I don't know enough about this matter to help other than to let you know that the fecal matter comes from the ground water (SEPTIC TANKS) :o and some farm run-off...

It will cost everyone a boat load of money so the objects will be loud and strong but the bottom line is this: the sewer systems along the coast MUST be upgraded or our kids will never enjoy the near shore waters the way we do!

I think you need to recheck. The site clearly states warning IS issued in Taylor County. It is also all over the news that taylor County is included....

A Lot of the "brown" color on your boat comes from tannic acid, a byproduct of the trees along the rivers....

PS: They are using different standards now....

"In 2004, Enterococcus took the place of fecal coliform as the new federal standard for water quality at public beaches. It is believed to provide a higher correlation than fecal coliform with many of the human pathogens often found in sewage"

Another words, it is a better crap detector.... :-D

I stand corrected, but...I think we had this conversation awhile back, I can't find the post though....Tell me a month that Taylor county hasn't had a warning with the exception of the cooler months....Read the *
*A Poor rating may result in a resampling event to confirm poor conditions, otherwise a Health Advisory or Warning will be issued immediately.
Any Poor will result in a Advisory or Warning

The level of fecal matter in and around Taylor County is far far less than the amount that surrounds you most days WAM. In fact, as I remember, you went down to Taylor County a couple of weeks ago and suddenly the fecal count jumps off of the chart.

Boy, when you start to play, play with someone your own speed...even if you have to ride on a short bus to do it :smt005

Look someone lost their topwater plug, no wait, is that a Baby Ruth?

Thanks RX. Still doesn't say anything about the effect on marine life other than the fish saying, "Man, someone light a match!"

I'm pretty sure that Ladyfish have a lot to do with. Get one on the line and they just poo all over. Real lady-like!! There seem to be more and bigger ladyfish this year .. hence more shite in the water.

That's the scientific explanation.
