big bream

Post by ak man »

I was casting in the man made pond behind my parent's house with a 4 in. jointed rapala and this big boy nailed it. Easily the biggest bream I've ever caught, had to go over a pound and 1/2. I've now caught the biggest bream and crappie of my life out of this little pond. Go figure.

That's a bouncer! How old is that pond? There always seems to be a spike in the productivity about age 4 or 5. That's not to say that with good management you can sustain the population.

the "pond" is about 15 years old. It's actually a series of small ponds and waterfalls connected by underground pipes. They built the ponds first and then homes around it. When I was 12-13 yrs old while the houses were being built we started putting bream and bass from golf course ponds into them. Well....once homes were completed we were run off and chewed out by all the new residence. In '04 my parents moved from Albany back up to Atlanta, into the same neighborhood, and bought a house on one of the ponds. :D So, now they can't kick me off and the fishing is pretty good. Besides the bream, I've caught several 4-5 lb bass.

Thanks for the interesting history AJ. Glad your able to reap the benifits of your earlier efforts  :D Hopefully all the development and associated perils to water that goes with it won't ruin what sounds like a neat spot.
