Problem with Fuel Gauge.

Our fuel gauge always reads full, and unfortunately the fuel Geenie is not sneaking in our yard at night and filling it up when we are not around.
Anyway to diagnose this problem ourselves? Could it be the gauge itself or would it be the sending unit. Its a 2002 Cape Horn Bay boat with 100 gallon fuel tank and Mercury 200 HP Motor, if that helps.

More than likely the sending unit. Speedometers and fuel gauges seem to be worthless on boats. Neither work on my new boat.

Ditto what BD said. Don't know if I've ever been on a boat that the fuel gauge works.

I plan to install a fuel meter on my boat that gives a fuel consumption readout. I believe Tom Keels installed 1 of these on his FIL's boat.

Mine works but don't know how correct it is. My best gadge is to open the hatch a look at the level in the tank.

Mine was goofy till I followed the wire from the gauge to the tank and discovered the only thing holding it together was the corrosion.
Replaced the wire, works fine.

I know some folks use a dip stick, with premeasured marks for gal.

Get a smaller tank.

When you run out of gas.

Buy more.

You've got a 4kick 115 and a 40 gal tank. Just put 5 gal. a week in the tank and don't worry about it. spend the cash on the remote for the power pole, now thats what you can't do without

When the 25 Gallon tank on my boat reads empty there is at least 7 gallons left, I wonder if they did this so you won't run out.

When I originally purchased my Carolina Skiff, the tank (18 gal) under the console did not have a gauge and you had to stand on your head to put fuel in it. I had the tank replaced with one that had a filler located under the seat of the console and had a hatch installed in the seat to make fueling easier. I had a gauge installed at the same time and it's worked perfectly. That was 3 years ago. And no, I don't have the same gas in it
